Post Holiday Blues

So I am back from Borneo refreshed and rejuvenated, I don’t know what I’d do if I wasn’t coming back to my beautiful studio and tattooing such good people. This week has been full of good stuff, I’ve started some new amazing tattoos, added to some older ones and almost finished a couple!

I’ll start with Simon’s skull, he wanted a dark mark but not in the prison style tattoo. He definitely wanted something super badass. Harry Potter tattoos win.

and while he and Kirstie were in Oxford  I got a decent photo of Kirstie’s unfinished spooky lady tattoo

So the big news is obviously that Helen started at the Oxford studio before I went on holiday and she has been thriving! So if anyone wants to get a tattoo by an amazing tattoo artist without a zillion year waiting list then you should definitely take a look at her Website.

Here she is tattooing my good pal Lori

Here is a pic of an avengers tattoo I’ve been working on for a while now

And here is a stag Tattoo I started

Finally I made this tattoo on the lovely Lee Silver….a little stone dreaming his cactus dream, colour to come later

Well, I have to say seeing Jen and Helen again and doing all these lovely tattoos on people have made coming back to my little Oxford tattoo studio a lot nicer than any other time I’ve had to come back off Holiday. Here are some snaps from my jaunt away

Laters Slaters!

Autumn arrives….and so do some guests

October is almost here! A lot has happened in the last couple of months so let me dish the gossip!

First of all, for the last 3 weeks we have had the pleasure of having Aimee Cornwell as a guest in the studio. She did some amazing tattoos and I can’t stress how much she has taught me in terms of technique but also the courage I need to do do more freehand and generally just be more confident in my work.DSC_0017

She also gifted me this amazing tattoo, which hopefully I’ll get to repay when I do my guest spot at Nemesis Tattoo Studio (Seaham) in January. I am mega excited about going to work with such a talented bunch 😀

Aimee’s gone now, working the London Tattoo convention and then off to Berlin.

Briony, our little apprentice is also at the London convention this weekend just for fun. I tattooed her this week, covered up a near invisible old tattoo, It was nice but unfortunately if you don’t use any black ink things all but disappear in a few months.

And while she was living it up in London, I had a full day NO SHOW! on a Saturday…So I could have gone after all. Luckily I got to tattoo this delicious burger <3burger

I cannot explain how much I’ve wanted to do a food tattoo since I started tattooing!

I got to add this yellow rose and claddagh to Nick’s plaque, a real honour as the plaque was done by an amazing artist Hayley Hayes. Look how solid her colour is!yellowrose

Also made a start to the competition winner-Kirstie’s spooky ladyDSC_0023

Can’t wait to finish her!

The most exciting news though is that we have another artist coming to work at Jericho Tattoo Emporium. I’ve been really busy and can no longer take on much smaller work and my good friend Helen Louise Courtnage was looking for a Studio so et voila!helencourtnage

Helen is an incredibly solid tattooist , you can find her portfolio on the Jericho Tattoo Emporium website, or on her website www.arubablue.net

She will be working 1 or 2 days a week at first depending on demand then after Christmas she will hopefully be fulltime!

Oh, one last thing- Jen has updated her website so you can now buy her gorgeous jewellery and magic potions online!

Things are really taking off now, we never knew how successful it would be to just have a couple gals doing our thing in a Jericho basement. Thankyou to everyone who has supported our little venture from the start, we really appreciate it. <3

Oxford Tattoo Studio Adventures

Aaaah it’s been a busy few months! I’ve been tattooing lots, exploring Jericho and I’ve even had some time off.
Here is a little frog tattoo I did

A few weeks ago I got to do some more on Matt’s Koi sleeve, he is a badass at getting tattooed and we’ve completed most of a colour sleeve in three full day sessions

Then I got to make this little cat tattoo on a lovely lady who traveled to Oxford all the way from Kent

Oh so some nice news too my good friend and very talented tattoo artist Luke Whitehurst is coming to do a guest spot in Oxford from wednesday August 13th till saturday 16th
luke

He does amazing traditional style tattoos and some of the best script I’ve seen so if you’d like to book a tattoo with him on these dates and avoid the drive to Harrogate email him 😀
We also have some exciting changes coming up soon and may have some new, more permanent faces joining the Jericho Tattoo Emporium team.
Also, I’ve now added our aftercare advice to the website so I can avoid printing ten treesworth of aftercare sheets every week! Trying to do my bit for the environment, also it’ll be easier for you guys to just hop to the website whenever you need reminding.
thanks for reading!

Summer is coming…

Hey everyone!
Another blog post now that I have successfully settled into Oxford life, Jericho Tattoo Emporium is ticking along splendidly and I now have a 15 minute walk to work every day and thats it!
To everyone that didn’t know I’ve been having an awful time driving since the crash and now I’m pretty happy that I don’t have to at all.
Anyway, here are some of the new tattoos I’ve been working on

Here is a terrible ( but sunny) photo of one of Kat’s rainbow roses, we have to add some soft black and grey background but then we are done on that and onto her next piece!!
katsrose

Also here is a quick little anchor banger I did the other day on a lovely lady who I’ve been tattooing a while (all the way back when I started tattooing in Reading!) she has the most amazing skin to tattoo, all the colours come out so bright
anchorio

Here is a little lantern I started and finished in one today, great fun to be doing more black and grey now
lanternio

generally though I’ve been working on huge pieces and not really taking proper photos, and the photos I have been taking are awful!
If you want to catch up with a bit more work check out my Instagram — hannahcalaveratattoo
We also now have a sign in the cowboymod window so hopefully all you lovely folk booked in can find us a bit easier!

Paradise

Hey everyone, it feels like it’s been a long while since I last made a blog post.
Jericho Tattoo Emporium is up and running and is a little slice of heaven.
I love being back in Oxford, and looking forward to moving this weekend so I only have a 20 minute walk to work every morning.
Sooooo the last few weeks have been a bit of a haze of setting up, commuting, going to Raoul’s a lot and generally having fun with Madame Silver, in fact this Saturday she did a little bit of laser tattoo removal patch testing on my various bits and bobs I am not 100% in love with anymore.
Her laser machine actually doesn’t hurt anywhere near as much as my previous experience at other studios…. If you’ve fallen out of love with your tattoo send her an email via her website to have a free consultation/quote www.madamsilver.co.uk

Here is a picture of her touching up a tree, and a juicy margarita from Raoul’s Bar (next door to us)

Another bit of exciting fun is that Jess is coming to guest with us, I tried so hard to make one of those cool montages for IG but could only manage this- its got a few gorgeous examples of her work but you really need to check out her website/FB/IG for more!
jessi

and then here are some of the tattoos I’ve been working on
a tattoo of Aku Aku from crash bandicoot, I love tiki stuff and Crash so this was so much fun! love the colour scheme with this, really need to do more tiki inspired drawings
akuaku

here are Rosie’s feet, latin wolf and fawn. Amazing idea, very lovely and clever lady. I had a blast tattooing her…I don’t think she felt the same way by the end!! no one loves getting their feet done. But she sat like a rock
deerwolf

Ooooh this was a fun one I did just the other day on another lovely lady, hopefully be getting a healed photo of this to show how some of the greys lighten up
rosesberries

Started and finished this on a lovely fellow who travelled all the way from Lincoln, of his pal Sprout who recently passed <3 poor Sprout, but he will live on forever in the form of this tattoo sprout

And I’ve been tattooing Claire for a while and finally finished this bad boy, now here is the thing- I took a bunch of Photos and not one of them was usable apart from this one which is only half the bloody tattoo! Oh well, I’m sure she will be back (totally addicted haha) so I’ll be able to get a healed one!
hummingbiurds

So anyways, I am really looking forward to summer in Oxford- especially as it means I get to treat all my customers and friends to some lovely times in Oxfordshire in the next few months and have some brill adventures.
Hurray!

xx

Black Rabbit

I’ve been enjoying my time at Black rabbit in Newbury a lot. I know I’m only a guest artist but all the guys have made me feel really welcome. And I’ve done some really fun tattoos too.
image
I’ve been tattooing Becca for around 3 years and she let me do this lovely lock and key,and jazz up an old butterfly. Sat like a rock too which is a bonus. The sides of this pic are a bit of a montage on Helen Courtenage’s arm

image
After a year I finally finished Mark’s ladyface sleeve. Very fond of this one! It was nice to spend such a lot of time with an old friend.

Here is a shot of something small I added to Hannah’s half sleeve before Xmas
image

Here is a photo of Christian’s finished sleeve too, I started this one 3 and a half years ago so it was nice to finally finish it-also good to see how much my tattooing has changed over the years. You can see on this shiny pic where I’ve gone back in and reworked a few bits

In other news, the Jericho studio is coming along. This weekend we are getting all the equipment down there and Monday is a meeting to see if it’s ready for opening! How exciting, we still haven’t found a place to move into in Oxford yet but I’m hoping it’ll all fall into place.

Happy new year

I hope everyone had a good Christmas and new year! I did, I got very drunk, received a cheeseboard and my boyfriend dressed in drag! Hurray!
Well good news, the new tattoo parlour in Oxford should be all set up and ready to go by the 11th of February so I’m now taking tattoo bookings for February and March! Email me via the contact form on this site if you’d like to book in.
The lovely Madame Silver who I will be working with will be taking bookings for laser tattoo removal consults from mid February too, again just email to enquire!

I have January cancellations free here and there if anyone wants to grab them. Otherwise I’ll be using the free time to sketch, paint, and house hunt in Oxford as we still haven’t found a place to move house yet! Ooh err.

It’s an exciting venture opening your own tattoo studio! Exciting but stressful
Xx

Obligatory Christmas post!

Hey everyone, so on Friday I had my last day at picture house in Chippenham- which was sad but I am happy to have met some wonderful people and had a well needed “good time” at work for the last 3 months!
Who knew that was even possible?

1462598_329210830551835_454833297_o

I will miss those crazy people, but will see them on the regs at conventions next year!
here is a tattoo I did on my last day
1525157_668254976530374_1824534066_n

pissed up old tomcat on Ed, I want to do more like this!

The good news is I have found a permanent place to work in Jericho in Oxford as of February 2014 and will officially be an Oxford tattooist! It’s a private studio in the heart of Jericho, 5 minutes walk from Oxford train station. So it is mega easy for all you Reading and Berkshire people to get to. If you have an appointment with me I will be phoning you to tell you where it is don’t worry!

Here is a christmassy tattoo I managed to get a totally healed photo of recently
1480724_328978233908428_32591576_n

I’ll keep you all updated on the Oxford antics and once I move all my stuff to the new studio I’ll snap some pics!
I hope everyone has a good christmas and a happy new year!

New beginnings

Hey everyone, hope you like the updated site! I wanted to have one that I could update more easily, maybe add a shop to and just keep the blog going.
I absolutely love working in Picture house tattoo studio, all the gals there are not only amazingly talented, but funny and great to work with too. I think that has reflected in my work since starting there as well, less stress and a nicer working environment=more time to focus on tattooing! art and just generally being happier.
Did my first ever (semi) realistic pet portrait on Chris

image

Which was a lot of fun, I want to do more of those for definite.
I haven’t got many new finished tattoos to post up as unfortunately I’ve been off for two weeks with whiplash after a car crash. Not a great thing for a tattooist to get with the neck and back ache etc!
At least I’ve been making the most of my time off (zonked on painkillers I might add) by getting some lady based artwork started for prints!
Here are a few sneak peeks, but not letting you see the finished articles Until they are all ready!
image

image

image

Aaand in other news I will be getting my car back tomorrow and back at work, fighting fit on Thursday. I managed to go out for a few drinks (probably shouldn’t have with the painkillers and all but I couldn’t miss another outing down to bad luck)
Here is a picture of us all looking very…ahem, glamorous before we headed off to Swindon

image

That is all for now lovely people.
Soon!

Female tattoo convention

This weekend was the third annual female tattoo show in Leamington spa, I had a lot of fun and met a lot of talented and lovely ladies from around the UK. It was the first time at a convention  I actually felt comfortable and not nervous as hell! I entered Jen’s octopus chest piece in the competition

image

I won best large colour!

image

And got to work on Liz’s sleeve some more.

image

Went out afterwards and had a fantastic time too….oh and I bought a sweeeeet taxidermied crow!
